Can a weighted blanket really help you get a better night’s rest? I bought a 15 lb weighted blanket a few weeks ago to give it a try and so far I am loving it! I have anxiety and occasionally and abruptly, I will have anxiety attacks. My very first anxiety attack was outside of a tiny sushi restaurant in San Franciso. I still remember feeling like I wasn’t able to breathe like my entire respiratory system was shutting down. I stripped off my clothes wearing only a pair of jeans and a bra (embarrassing!) outside of this busy sushi restaurant and closed my eyes trying to talk myself into calming down and just BREATHE – slowly. “Jennifer. breathe. slowly. in the nose. out of the mouth. just breathe” I repeated this to myself until if I finally felt everything stabilize. This was not my last anxiety attack and it actually progressed after I had my second child, Rori.
Once the kids are tuckered in and sound asleep, I like to do a short but sweet self-care to relax my mind and body before I climb into bed. I still was having difficulty falling asleep and also woke up quite frequently during the middle of the nights to either use the restroom or for no reason at all.
soo.. here we are
Does a weighted blanket help with sleeping and anxiety?
DETAILS:
I am 5’5, I weigh 120 lbs, and purchased the 15 lbs queen weighted blanket base on suggested size. The first few nights felt weird, the blanket felt LIGHT on me.
NIGHT 1-3
It did not feel like it had any extra weight – which I thought was absolutely strange but stuck it out anyways. I tossed and turned throughout the night more than I have ever before. I was ready to give up on this weighted blanket!
NIGHT 4
I got into bed that night and pushed the blanket to my feet because I was just OVER IT. laying there in the dark, wide awake, I decided to give the blanket another try. Night 4 is when things changed for me. I felt so safe, I felt the weight of the blanket, and I slept most of the night with the exception of one bathroom break and my Cooper’s (our family dog) barking that startled me.
PROS
- Helped me with getting a longer and deeper sleep.
- Does not move or slip at night.
- Helps me sleep on my back – I was never able to before because I didn’t feel safe and secure.
CONS
- Made me sweat more than usual.
- The blanket did not feel warm, even though it made me sweat
- The blanket may not be for good use during summer months
- The material did not feel cozy and comfortable
I plan to buy a more comfortable weighted blanket now that I know the pros and cons.

This is a great post! I am considering this for my 4yo Arya so she doesn’t wake up in the middle of the night. Did you try this with the kids too?
I did not try it with my kids (my kids are great sleepers.. mama has the problem at night haha) but they do make them for kids as well!
Haha cool. Will look into it.
